Kyle Ashman, a 23-year-old contestant set to appear on Love Island U.K.’s 12th season, has withdrawn from the show just days before its summer 2025 premiere in Mallorca, Spain, following reports of his alleged involvement in a machete attack, which he denies.
ITV, the network behind the reality dating series, confirmed Ashman’s exit in a statement to Deadline on June 3, citing “personal reasons” for his decision not to enter the Love Island villa.
According to The Sun, Ashman was one of two individuals arrested earlier this year in connection to a machete attack at a wake in Stafford, England. Staffordshire Police told the outlet that both suspects were questioned and released with no further action taken. Ashman addressed the allegations, stating to Deadline, “I fully cooperated with the police investigation and made it clear I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person, and any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate.”
As Love Island U.K. prepares for its new season, Love Island USA is also gearing up for its latest chapter, premiering June 3 on Peacock. Host Ariana Madix, known from Vanderpump Rules, emphasized the challenges of the show’s format. “It’s tough to put yourself out there in a dating context, especially with the world watching,” she told USA Today on June 3. She praised the contestants’ bravery, adding, “I hope they have fun, too.”
